Horror Movies for October #5

For a newer film we have the 2012 Richard Bates Jr’s excellent “Excision“. It’s a troubled teen story that doesn’t fall into the typical and predictable plot of the sub-genre. AnnaLynne McCord plays Pauline, an unattractive and delusional high school student who wants to become a doctor. She wasn’t the only actor cast off type. Traci Lords plays her controlling and religious mother, not like in Carrie but more like your neighbor, and John Waters plays a minister.  If it seems like a gimmick don’t be fooled. As amusing as that sounds, the ending is one of the most disturbing and brutal I’ve seen with a final shot that stuck with me for weeks. It is grotesque and gorgeous. And shouldn’t be missed.
