Horror Movies For October #17

Today we have John Eric Dowdle‘s 2008 “Quarantine“, a remake of the brilliant Spanish classic found footage film, Jaume Balagueró & Paco Plaza’s 2007 “REC”. Hollywood doesn’t waste time with remakes of foreign horror films and that generally doesn’t make for a better film as the original is still fresh in our minds. That said, this is a pretty good film. A news reporter, Angela Vidal played by Jennifer Carpenter, is assigned to follow firefighters on their routine night shift. When they are called to an apartment building for  an emergency, they find themselves trapped inside with an infectious virus that turns people into zombies. Trapped inside because the government acted quickly and quarantined everyone inside to contain the disease. Kind of like what an ebola czar would do… Good scares and still terrific ending, even if it isn’t as Catholic as the original.

    Peace Skip,

    Thank you.

    “Quarantine” is a keeper.

Weary of this zombie mania permeating our cultural landscape, “Quarantine” is an offering in what I regard as the desolate, exhausted zombie domain that I can endorse.

It’s an imaginative and entertaining variation on a theme worn gossamer thin in my ledger.

    Cordially,

    Che!
